Frequently Asked Questions

Can I attend Freestyle Fitness Yoga whilst Pregnant?

Yes! Yoga can be very beneficial during your pregnancy, as it can help you meet the physical demands of pregnancy, labor, birth and motherhood. It provides the physical and emotional stress relief you need as it calms both the mind and body.

NOTE: Make sure to tell the instructor that you’re pregnant and which trimester you are in as certain postures may need adapting. Our Yoga instructor is Pre/Post Natal Qualified.

How is Freestyle Fitness Yoga different from the traditional Yoga I’ve done before?

Traditionally, Yoga (such as, Vinyasa or Ashtanga) combine a physical and spiritual experience, whereby you may hold a certain position or stretch for minutes at time whilst focusing on your breathing.

In Freestyle Fitness Yoga, we concentrate on the physical aspect, using Yoga postures, stretches and balances, combining these with fitness principles that endorse strength, stability and increase flexibility. The movements in Freestyle Fitness Yoga are much more fluid providing your body with a gentle yet powerful workout.

Sessions finish with a short period of relaxation, allowing you to find an equilibrium state in body and mind.

Will Freestyle Fitness Yoga help my back pain?

If you suffer with an achy back, give Yoga a go! Due to the nature of our yoga class, and it’s emphasis on stretching, strength and flexibility, it can relieve back soreness and improve function.

If you experience occasional soreness or chronic aches you may greatly benefit from the Yoga postures that help lengthen your spine, stretch and strengthen your muscles, and return your back to proper alignment.

The causes of back pain primarily stem from weak abdominal and pelvic muscles, and lack of flexibility in the hips, therefore, Yoga’s focus on balance and steadiness encourages your body to develop defences against these. Our Freestyle Fitness Yoga class contains specific routines focused on strengthening your core muscles, as well as a specific routine designed to open your hip flexors to fight against back pain.

When you strengthen your abdominal and pelvic muscles, you improve your posture, which reduces the load on your back and therefore reduces the ache you’re currently feeling. In addition, by improving your flexibility through Yoga stretches, this increases the blood flow to tight muscles.
